Launched on 12.09.1946 at Bodewes Scheepswerven N.V., Martenshoek, Netherlands. (Yard / Hull No. 319) as ARAK. On 19. November 1946 completed for E. & A. Scheer, Amsterdam (Management: Amons & Co.) and registered at Groningen. Cargo winches: 2. Cargo gear: 2x 2ton SWL derricks. Official No. 2177 Z GRON 1946. Call sign: PCSZ.

1947 the management changed to Terwogt & Lagers C.V., Amsterdam and registered at Amsterdam.

Purchased on 19.10.1951 by Trafina S.A., Lugano (Management Trafina A.G., Basel & London) and renamed LUGANO. Official No. 033. Call sign: HBDS.

So far nothing has been found about the management of the LUGANO, but it must be strongly assumed that this coaster was also operated in the same way as the LUCERNE. Their trade also extended across the Baltic and North Seas, around the British Isles to northern Spain.

On 09.08.1955 sold to N.V. "Neerlandia" Scheepvaart & Agentuur Maatschappij, Rotterdam. Renamed: NISSE. Official No. 3355 Z GRON 1955. Call sign PGHI.

07.01.1959: Went aground on Falske Bolsaks Reef on a voyage from Rotterdam to Horsens and Holbaeck in Denmark with nitre. Refloated the next day by the Danish salvagevessel 'Garm'.

21.08.1960: Went hard aground near Raufarhofn on then nordcoast of Island due faulty navigation of her 1st mate. Repaired in dock at Reykjavik.

23.07.1963: The 63 year old captain P.A. van der Harst from The Hague passed away on his watch on the bridge on a voyage from Cork to Par on the southcoast of England.

Sold on 25.03.1965 to N.V. Scheepvaartbedrijf "Gruno", Amsterdam. Renamed SPURT. Call sign: PHQS.

On 25.11.1969 changed flag to Panama. Call sign: HO4664.

On 25.08.1971 a fire broke out in her accommodation and later repaired at the Terneuzense Scheepsbouw Maatschappij, Terneuzen. Sailed on October 8th, 1971 for Amsterdam.

On 12.10.1971 laid up at Amsterdam and offered for sale.

In December 1972 purchased by Sun Financial Panama Corporation S.A. (Piet J. Gailliard), Panama. Official No. 4585-PEXT. Call sign: HO6308. Not renamed.

On 08.01.1973 about 20 miles north of Ushant drifting due engine breakdown and later towed by the Germant tug "Heros" 1964/479 GRT to Brest for repairs. On 14.01.1973 sailed from Brest for Lisbon after engine repairs but arrived back to Brest on the 15.01.1973 again with engine problems. Finally sailed on 21.01.1973 to continue her voyage.

On the 26.02.1973, during a voyage from Lisboa to Rotterdam, she went aground near Benodet (France) after her anchors dragged while she was effecting engine repairs. She was refloated on 08.03.1973 and towed to Quiper-Corniquel.
The day before, however 1'300 kilos hashish were discovered on board. She was impounded by French Customs on 07.03.1973 and it was belived that she was sold for demolition locally. Despite this, she was listed in Lloyd's Register until 1994/95.

Other sources say that she was sold at auction at Quimper on 07.02.1975 to L. Riviere from St. George au Didome and broken up locally.
