Hull / Yard No.: 4279 became the third ship of the so-called "Olympic Series" (six vessels commissioned by the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company were delivered in 2014 and 2015. They are among the largest container ships in the world) built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd, Okpo, Geoje, South Korea. Keel laid on December 26, 2014, and undocked on April 11, 2015, respectively, floated out.

Delivered on 24.06.2015 to the owner Xiangxing International Ship Lease Co. Ltd., Hong Kong as MSC ZOE. The ship was named after the four-year-old granddaughter of Gianluigi Aponte, President and Chief Executive of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Geneva. The ship cost about $ 140 million.

Commercial management of this vessel will be provided by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and technical management has been assigned to SC Mediterranean Shipping Co. S.r.l. transferred to Piano di Sorrento Italy, which also handles ISM management.

On 2 August 2015, the ship was officially baptized by the eponym Zoe Vago in Hamburg.

On January 2, 2019, around 342 containers went overboard near the German island of Borkum. The ship crossed the North Sea on a voyage from Antwerp to Hamburg when it came to storm "Zeetje". Many containers and their contents, including organic peroxides, children's toys, shoes, bags, cushions, chairs, televisions and plastic packaging were washed ashore on the Dutch islands Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog in the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO protected biosphere reserve. Also on the German island Borkum cargo parts were washed ashore.
